About the company

Pursuant to Directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 2003 on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, the Republic of Slovenia adopted the Decree on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Management in 2006 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 107/06). The Decree lays down the rules for waste electrical and electronic equipment  management, with the purpose of preventing incorrect disposal or inappropriate recycling and recovery. The Decree commits all producers, acquirers and importers of this equipment to collect and provide correct treatment and recovery of waste equipment.

To this end, the most prominent liable parties for waste electrical and electronic equipment management in Slovenia established the company ZEOS, d.o.o. in June 2005. It has become the first and only national and non-profit joint scheme for waste electrical and electronic equipment management in Slovenia.

In 2006, the company successfully coordinated its activities and actively cooperated with the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning for the establishment of the system of collection and further treatment and recovery of waste EE equipment. The advantages of the best-organised national scheme were identified by the European Lamp Company Federation (ELC), and using their knowledge and experience, we also established the system of waste luminary collection and recycling within our scheme. By including waste luminary collection, ZEOS has become part of a uniform system of waste EE equipment collection and recycling for the entire EU.

In February 2007, we began collecting waste EE equipment and carrying out its treatment both in Slovenia and abroad. We acquired all necessary permits and on 18th April 2007, we were entered as the first joint scheme in Slovenia under No. 1 in the plan registry with the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia.
